Hundreds of people gathered in Naples’ Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary for the feast of St. Januarius, known as San Gennaro in Italian. The saint was a Catholic bishop believed to have been martyred during the Christian persecution of Emperor Diocletian.
In Neapolitan lore, the failure of the blood to liquefy signals war, famine, disease, or other disasters. The reputed miracle usually occurs up to three times a year: Sept. 19, the saint’s feast day; the first Saturday of May, the day his remains were transferred to Naples; and Dec. 16, the anniversary of the 1631 eruption of the nearby Mount Vesuvius. Four members of one family killed in Italy house collapse
Four members of the same family, including two young children, have died in a gas explosion in southern Italy.
Their two-storey home in the town of Saviano, near Naples, partially collapsed in the blast, killing the siblings - a boy and a girl - as well as their mother and grandmother.
The father and a newborn baby were recovered from the rubble alive, Italian firefighters said.
He remains in hospital in Naples in serious condition, while the baby's injuries are not life-threatening, local media reported.The Vigili del Fuoco, Italy’s fire service, reported that the parents and three children lived on one floor of the property, while another woman - said to be the grandmother - lived on the floor above.
“Firefighters recovered the father and a newborn baby alive, entrusting them to the care of the health workers on site, while they could do nothing for the two children, a boy and a girl, whose bodies were unfortunately recovered lifeless,” The Vigili del Fuoco said in a statement.
While authorities have not confirmed the ages of the children, local media reported that they were four and six.
The explosion occurred at around 07:00 local time (06:00 BST), the Vigili del Fuoco said.
Firefighters found the children and father in the morning, then spent the day searching through the rubble, not locating the mother until 16:45.
Firefighters’ spokesman Luca Cari told reporters during the day that rescuers had to be “very careful and move slowly, to avoid new collapses” as they searched, the Associated Press reported.
Search and rescue teams, operating with sniffer dogs, continued the search for the grandmother into the night, announcing they had found her and had wrapped up the search at 01:00.
Investigations are continuing into the exact cause of the building's collapse, but early theories suggest the house collapsed after a gas explosion. Source

Two Delta Airlines planes have collided on a runway at the country's busiest airport.
The shocking incident took place at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in Georgia just after 10am on Tuesday - with dramatic images showing the back end of the Louisiana-bound flight bent at a 90 degree angle.
The crash occurred after large Tokyo-bound flight DL295 clipped the tail of flight DL5526 to Louisiana as it was taxiing for takeoff.
The regional jet, an Endeavor Air Bombardier CRJ-900, was left with a severed tail while the Airbus 350 - which weighs 239,000lbs - sustained damage to its wingtip.
By comparison, the smaller jet weights just 47,250lbs - five times as small. Delta said there were 56 people on the Bombardier, and 221 passengers on the Airbus plane.
So far, no injuries have been reported among the combined 277 passengers on board the jets.
Tampa meteorologist for WTFS TV Jason Adams said he was aboard the regional plane at the moment of impact.'Well that was terrifying,' he posted on X. 'Taxiing out for the flight from Atlanta to Louisiana and another plane appears to have clipped the back of our plane.
'Very jarring, metal scraping sounds then loud bangs. We’re fine. No fire or smoke. Awaiting instructions.'
Delta said that the Airbus rammed into the Lafayette-bound plane as it was sat on an adjacent runway, 'resulting in damage to the tail of the regional jet and the wing of the A350.'

The opening day for Burning Man 2024 began in tragedy as authorities investigate the death of a female participant.Burning Man’s emergency services personnel responded to “a report of an unresponsive individual” on Sunday at 11:29 a.m., event officials wrote in a statement. The Pershing County Sheriff's Office was notified immediately and deputies were dispatched to the scene. Authorities confirmed the death of a female participant. The sheriff's office said the death is under investigation “until a Cause and Manner can be determined” following an autopsy.
“The name of the participant is being withheld at this time, until the decedent's next of kin can be notified,” Jerry Allen with the Pershing County Sheriff wrote. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the decedent.”

A precious stone pyramid in Mexico is the latest to succumb to an increasingly chaotic global climate. On the night of July 29, the 15-meter-high (roughly 50-foot-high) square monument located in the state of Michoacán suddenly slumped under the pressure of incessant rain, its south wall crumbling into a pile of rubble.The pyramid was once one of the best-preserved monuments of the Michoacán Kingdom civilization. It is located at Ihuatzio, a remarkably preserved archaeological site that contains one other pyramid, a tower or fortress, and some tombs.
It was first occupied 1,100 years ago by indigenous Nahuatl-speaking groups. Later, it became the headquarters of the P'urhépechas people, the only empire the Aztecs couldn't conquer. The culture still thrives to this day.
Only one of the pyramids at the site has been damaged, but personnel from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) say that at least six of its 'stepped bodies' are in disrepair, including the outer wall, and the core and retaining wall.

The cause of death for a North Carolina woman who was found 'entangled' in a baggage claim conveyor belt at Chicago O'Hare has been revealed.
The death of Christine Vinton, 57, of Waxhaw, Virginia, was ruled a suicide by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office on Friday.
She died by asphyxiation due to hanging, a spokesperson told The Chicago Tribune. The 57-year-old was found inside a restricted area in Terminal 5 shortly before 8am on Thursday where she was found unresponsive and 'entangled' in the conveyor belt.
Surveillance footage showed the woman entering the unoccupied area around 2:30am - five hours before her body was discovered.
Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene and was not an airport employee. Authorities said the part of the airport the woman entered is restricted to employees, and while it's considered secure, it isn't a high-security area, ABC 7 reported.
This section of the international terminal is filled with conveyor belts that bring luggage to and from planes. Bags in this area also go through customs.
The terminal serves Delta Airlines, as well as international carriers.
