The progressive news network confirmed the decision to preempt its influential and top-rated morning show after a CNN inquiry Sunday evening. The network said the show will resume airing Tuesday. The decision by MSNBC to leave one of its most recognizable programs on the sidelines amid a seismic politics-driven news cycle, with the Republican National Convention getting underway in the wake of the Saturday shooting at Trump’s campaign rally, is certain to raise eyebrows.A person familiar with the matter told CNN that the decision was made to avoid a scenario in which one of the show’s stable of two dozen-plus guests might make an inappropriate comment on live television that could be used to assail the program and network as a whole. Given the breaking news nature of the story, the person said, it made more sense to continue airing rolling breaking news coverage in the fraught political moment.
“Given the gravity and complexity of this unfolding story, NBC News, NBC News NOW and MSNBC have remained in rolling breaking news coverage since Saturday evening,” a spokesperson for NBCUniversal News Group said in a statement to CNN. “As we continue to cover this story into the week, the networks will continue to cross simulcast, alternating between NBC News, NBC News NOW and ‘MSNBC Reports,’ so there is one news feed covering this developing situation.”

We've obtained an incredible clip that shows the moment the gunman opened fire at the Butler, PA rally Saturday -- and you can see the guy looking through either a scope or iron sights on a roof ... with people watching down below and freaking out, their panic palpable.The guy has longer brown hair, and he seems to be wearing a grey shirt/khaki pants -- and as you can see, he's carefully trying pinpoint a target from afar before pulling the trigger. Once bullets start to ring out, you can hear people screaming on the ground and a mass scramble take place .... and only moments later, you can hear incoming gunfire -- with multiple pops coming his way, and at that point ... the gunman was struck, all on camera. The cameraman, Michael Difrischia, panned back to the gunman after the retaliating rounds could be heard ... and sure enough, you see the gunman laying there limp and lifeless. You can hear someone off-camera say, "That's exactly why we need f***ing Trump here." In terms of what led up to this ... Difrischia tells us he and his wife, Amber, were watching the Trump rally from outside the main grounds ... standing near some trees with about 30 to 40 other people, when Amber noticed the dude climbing up onto a nearby building there. King Charles and Queen Camilla were rushed to safety after a security risk wasdetected during an engagement in Jersey.
The King and Queen were on Weighbridge Place in St Helier touring the Jersey Expo when the security alert was detected.They had been enjoying touring each of the stands and were about to sample some Jersey ice cream before their security team advised them they had to cut the visit short.
They were ushered towards the Pomme D’or hotel - where they were scheduled to attend a tea party later this afternoon - but the King stopped to shake some hands en route before his security ushered him along.After a short while they exited the hotel and resumed their scheduled course of engagements. Buckingham Palace refused to comment but sources said every precaution was taken.Eamon Fenlon, managing director of Jersey Dairy, had just served the Queen an ice cream from a van before she was ushered out of the Expo.
Mr Fenlon said: “I had just given the Queen an ice cream and I turned back to get one myself before we had a chat. But when I turned back round she had been whisked off. Some of the other people told me it was a drone but whether that’s official or not I don’t know.”

PARK CRASH Five rushed to hospital after car plunges into hot, acidic geyser in Yellowstone National Park – as cops investigate
FIVE people were rushed to the hospital after a car they were riding in went off the road and into an inactive acidic geyser.
Officials said that the people involved in the accident were spotted Thursday morning driving near the semi-centennial geyser thermal pool before the vehicle fell into the water.Yellowstone National Park officials told CBS that the group managed to escape 105-degree Fahrenheit acidic water.
Spokesperson Morgan Warthin said the vehicle was submerged in about nine feet of water.
The passengers were taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the accident, the roadway was shut down to traffic while police and rescue crews extracted the vehicle from the water.Park officials have yet to determine the cause of the incident.
The geyser is located near Roaring Mountain and between Mammoth Hot Springs and Norris Junction.
The Semi-Centennial Geyser, which was the site of a major explosion in 1922, has been inactive for over a century.
In the statement, officials thanked Hanser’s Automotive, US Water Rescue Dive Team, HK, Contractors, Resource Technologies Incorporated, and Yellowstone Park Service Stations for their removal of the car "in such an expeditious manner."The park, which resides close to the Idaho-Montana border, is no stranger to accidents.

Pope Announces Visit To Papua New Guinea And One Month Later Papua New Guinea Landslide Kills Two Thousand
FIRST:
Pope Francis to visit 4 nations across Asia and Oceania in September
Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, and Singapore on September 2-13, 2024. The Holy See Press Office announced on Friday that Pope Francis will visit three nations in Asia and one in Oceania in early September.
He accepted the invitation of the Heads of State and local Church authorities to make what will be his 45th Apostolic Journey abroad.
The Pope is scheduled to depart Rome on September 2 and return on September 13.
He travels first to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia, where he will land on September 3 and remain until September 6.
Pope Francis will then fly east to visit Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea, and Vanimo on September 6-9.
His next stop will be in Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, on September 9-11.
From there, the Pope will travel to Singapore for a 3-day visit on September 11-13.

Wednesday 15th May was the first day of the KAICIID ‘Transformative Dialogue’ conference, which is bringing together religious and political leaders in Lisbon, Portugal.
An impressive array of speakers – including the Patriarch of Constantinople, the Imam of the Grand Mosque of Mecca, and three former European heads of state – addressed the conference, giving short talks of around ten minutes each.
The power of dialogue
Introducing the event, Dr Zuhair Alharthi, the Secretary General of KAICIID, stressed that dialogue is especially important given the climate of “growing distrust” in today’s world.Dr Heinz Fischer, the former President of Austria, spoke next, quoting the philosopher Karl Popper: “I can be right and you can be wrong, or I can be wrong and you can be right, but together we can approach the truth.”
We then heard from Bartholemew I, Patriarch of Constantinople and head of the Eastern Orthodox Church. He noted the Ecumenical Patriarchate’s longstanding commitment to interreligious dialogue, particularly with regard to climate change – the fight against which, he said, is a “spiritual obligation.” Source

Pope prays Holy Spirit may create harmony for world peace
Pope Francis renewed his ardent prayers for peace in our world, and end to all conflicts, recalling in particular suffering in the Holy Land, Ukraine, and the city of Kharkiv attacked two days ago.
The harmony of the Holy Spirit
After leading the recitation of the Regina Coeli prayer in St. Peter's Square, the Pope recalled that on this day, Pentecost Sunday, we remember how the Holy Spirit creates harmony out of different, and sometimes even conflicting realities. He called on everyone to pray that the Holy Spirit, "the Love of the Father and of the Son," may instil harmony in hearts, families, societies, and our entire world.
Peace in our world
The Pope prayed that the Holy Spirit may strengthen communion and fraternity among Christians of different traditions, and especially help leaders of nations to gain the courage to make efforts in favour of dialogue that lead to an end to wars. He lamented the many wars in our world today, mentioning in particular Ukraine and the city of Kharkiv which suffered an attack two days ago. The Pope prayed for peace in the Holy Land, Palestine, Israel, and the many places where wars are taking place. Helicopter carrying Iranian President Raisi crashes, prompting massive search operation, local media reports

Rescuers are searching for a helicopter that crashed while carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in northern Iran on Sunday, according to Iranian officials. Raisi’s condition and that of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, who was also on board, remain unknown as night falls and temperatures drop in the mountainous area.
The aircraft came down in the early afternoon in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, sparking a massive search effort, including military drones and dozens of rescue teams, state media reported. But despite hours of searching, emergency crews so far appear unable to reach the crash site amid reported fog and extreme cold.
Officials say they have been able to make contact with some of the passengers aboard the helicopter, raising hopes for the search-and-rescue mission’s success. Source

A solar-terrestrial effect strongly influences volcanism
The presentation focuses on a strong influence of solar wind on seismic and volcanic activity. The activity rates correlate with the solar wind speed and with the geomagnetic indices which reflect the solar induced disturbances of the Earth's magnetic field, Dst and Kp. The data bases of the Global Volcanism Program (Washington), of ISGI (Paris), the USGS, the Osservatorio Vesuviano INGV (Naples) and the OMNIweb (NASA) were accessed. In an early paper (Duma & Vilardo, 1997) it was shown already that seismic activity in the area Mt.Vesuvius varies parallel to the three solar cycles no. 20, 21, 22 (maxima 1969, 1980, 1989). The data set comprises thousands of weak earthquakes M ≤ 3.4. Such a solar effect appears not only in the long term but distinctly in the diurnal range, too, in dependence of the 24 hour cycle of the ionospheric Sq current system. The results of the present study reveal that the seismic activity at Mt.Vesuvius still reacted to this solar impact in the recent period 1999 - 2013. In additon, numerous studies in the past two decades show that this geodynamic influence acts not only on volcanic regions but on many of the main earthquake zones on the globe, causing fluctuations in seismic activity even for events M>6 (e.g. Duma & Ruzhin, 2003; Lipovics, 2005; Duma, 2010). Statistic analyses of time series of seismic strain release and Kp over decades indicated an average significance level of 97% for 9 main earthquake zones. Examples are given which illustrate the effect in seismic regions in N-Italy (fromUmbria to Emilia-Romagna) and S-Italy (Calabria to l'Abruzzo). As to the activity of volcanic eruptions, there is a strong indication that the same solar effect enhances the frequency of eruptions in periods of high solar flare activity of the solar cycles. This is shown not only for Mt. Etna but also for other main volcanoes on the globe, the Mt. St. Helens (USA), Mt. Unzen (Japan), Pinatubo (Philippines) and El Chichon (Mexico). Since the effect can be verified in so many regions, it seems to be a very general and powerful effect with far reaching mechanic implications for seismic as well as volcanic activity. Source
